Ragan asks The Dating Gurus: I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am on three dating sites and can't seem to get to the first date. I chat with the guy he asks me out we set a date and I get stood up or he cancels. I have paid to have someone write my profile and still nothing. Need advice.
The Dating Gurus' Answer:
Dates get cancelled frequently simply because people have busy lives. With many guys, they may find it easier to cancel a date and move onto another person than to work with the present person. Such is the disposable nature of online dating. At least 25% of dates will get re-scheduled or cancelled. Don't take that 25%+ personally.
We strongly believe in the power of the final confirmation text or phone call before the date. This is your filter for many of those cancellations.
The morning before you meet that afternoon coffee date, shoot the guy a quick text like:
Still on for meeting at Rasputin's at 3pm?
Keep it short. This kind of text is just about conveying information to each other, nothing emotional. The longer the text, the greater the temptation to add a manipulative twist or two, like: "Because I've got such a busy schedule, I find it hard to keep track of everything on my plate." Model the text on the sort of text you might send a girlfriend to confirm a lunch date.
