Gay.com Dating Site Review: Right For You?
If you're gay, bi, or transgender, depending on what you're hoping to find, you now have the dubious pleasure of trying to sort through as many confusing dating site options as your straight brothers and sisters.
Everyone already knows about the iconic hookup app Grindr (read our review here) which instantly locates others in your exact location, but if you are seeking more of a traditional date or long term relationship, you will want to look elsewhere.
Gay.com: Relationship, Dating, and Hook-up
1. Gay.com, with over 3 million members, offers an easy and entertaining sign up process. You can easily set up your parameters, fill out a profile, and have some fun with the various features, listed below.
One highlight that you won't find on your divorced mother's dating site is the option for "Position": Giver/Top, Receiver/Bottom, and Switch/Versatile. Or maybe Leather is your thing? If so, indicate your preferences within each category: Master? Trainer? Submissive? This site lays it all out there for you to play with.
Another unique feature that Gay.com encourages participation in is a Community, which here means a cluster of men who are attracted to or identify with a specific type of guy.
Think: Twink (young appearance, slender, no facial hair, generally ectomorphic), Bear (generally hairy, larger, usually masculine), Military, Circuit (partier), College, and even the innovative category for "Poz", which is short for HIV+ (can only be accessed by registering as a POZ member). Other categories and search functions make browsing easy and fun.
What Kind Of Guys Are Here, And What Are They Looking For?
We're sure that there are a good amount of guys looking for something other than a quickie, but since the site features so many options to identify your sexual preferences and identification, and gives many suggestions for members to interact this way, the site gives the impression of being weighted towards the quickie or hook up.
That said, there are plenty of opportunities to make yourself and your preferences known. It might just take a little longer.
Our short experiment included filling out the merest shadow of a profile, with a one line self description, and one photo of our decent looking guy, with our zip code. We posted one quick "Hey there!" in a chat community, and waited. Within a short window, we received 4 responses, mainly looking for hot sex (but we must say that we were not specifically seeking a "relationship" initially. We did receive one message from a guy seeking a long term relationship, but he was 981 miles away. We've updated our status to reflect our desire for a relationship and commitment, and we'll keep you posted.
