We're just like you.  We connected through an online dating service--OK Cupid, to be exact.  Our first date was at a fun Seattle tapas-and-sangria bar.  We fell in love.  We are engaged to be married.  We know that you, too, can find love.  Let us help you.

Example of a Decent Dating Profile for a 44 Year-Old Woman

We Dating Gurus know that it's tough to find a really great smash-bang online dating profile out there.  That's exactly why we started this site:  to help men and women improve their profiles. But there are plenty of decent profiles.  Here are three sections from the profile of a 44 year-old woman on OKCupid who we will call Balanced_Life_44.

Her profile is decent and could stand on its own, if needed.  With the few suggested touches, though, it will look much better.  Still not quite knock-you-over great, but perfectly fine and better than the majority of dating profiles.

I’m really good at:

Sassy comebacks, witty one-liners, and overall being a total sweetheart. The first things people usually notice about me I am preternaturally calm. I have beautiful green eyes. I love to make people laugh.

Cut the far overused word "sassy."  Good use of "sweetheart" to balance out and soften the "one-liners" and "comebacks."  The word "preternaturally" (meaning strange, inexplicable, uncommon, or abnormal) might be a problem.  We've always liked this word, but it's a stumbling block here and verges on pretentious.  It really serves no positive purpose, so we recommend cutting it.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love to read. A Confederacy of Dunces is my all-time favorite (and the Book-It Repertory Theater did an excellent version of it). A very close second is A Prayer for Owen Meany.

Every Easter I read "Jesus Shaves" and every Xmas I read "Six to Eight Black Men" - I think traditions are important.

Go-to comfort-food movies for me are Wings of Desire and The Big Lebowski.

I don't have a TV, but am not one of those snooty "I don't watch TV people." I love Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and any spy show from the 60s. If I could be a fictional character, I would be Mrs. Peel.

I'm not sure I could get through a day without listening to Nina Simone.

I will try most any food once unless it smells too weird or is still moving. Okay, it could smell weird. But definitely not be moving.

The "traditions are important" line is funny, without being too glib (the "Jesus" and "Black Men" pieces mentioned are by David Sedaris, hardly a religious writer at all).  Many dating profiles, especially on OKCupid, descend into smarmy glibness.  The movies and shows mentioned are popular enough to be understood by male searchers, yet still interesting and fun.

The six things I could never do without

Whimsy Ephemera Irony Laughter Altoids & my cat

The Dating Gurus' Comments

Nice list.  Wispy things like "whimsy" and "irony" balanced by prosaic things like "Altoids" and "cat."  Except replace the cat with something else.  We love cats, but they don't belong in a dating profile.
