We're all a bit nervous on the first date, often trying to find the right thing to say. Lauren McCarthy did something about it: she invented an app. The San Francisco-based artist and programmer created an app, Social Turkers, that allows her to hit "Record" on her iPhone when she's on a date. The phone broadcasts audio and video of the conversation to up to 60 people she paid to tune into the conversation and relay back their suggestions for what she should say.
In some cases, she didn't tell her the other person about the project until the end of their date.
She's close to bringing the app to market so that, as Fast Company says, "you, too can experience the enhanced social ease of having dozens of people watch, review, and comment on your date in real time." Fascinating idea.. and a great read.
